An evening of song and celebration marked three decades of Cor Abergwaun last Friday, at a special celebratory concert in St Peter's Church, Goodwick.

The original choir was formed after the 1986 eisteddfod with John S Davies as conductor and Stephen Pilkington as accompanist.

Thirty years later the four part choir is still going strong, conducted by Amanda Lawrence and accompanied by Margaret Rhys.

Friday's concert raised funds for the choir and Paul Sartori. It featured works performed by the choir over the last 30 years as well as guest appearances by singer Nia Lloyd, cellist Angharad James, and the two young sopranos Joy Cornock and Catrin Raymond, all of whom have performed with the choir over the years.

Goodwick Brass Band, conducted by Matthew Jenkins, a band going from strength to strength on a national level, also featured in Friday's musical feast.

The evening was ably compered by Rev Geoffrey Eynon and concluded with an emotional performance of Y Tangnefeddwyr with the band and guest performers joining with the choir to sing the words by poet Waldo Williams.

To end the evening specially created mementos, crafted by Dinas blacksmith Eifion Thomas, were presented to the guest artists.

"It was a fitting tribute to 30 years of singing," said a spokesman for the choir.
