A round Britain walker has been reunited with his belongings thanks to the vigilance of the Pembroke public.

Jake Tyler is on a 3,000 mile hiking challenge to highlight mental health and depression and raise money for the Mental Health Foundation.

On Saturday his tent, which was pitched by the Mill Pond was broken into. The thief stole Jake's hiking pack full of essential equipment, some of which held sentimental value.

Among the items stolen were maps, compasses, clothes, an emergency phone and water bottles.

"The items that were taken from my tent are essential for me to continue my challenge," Jake posted on social media. "I just want back what's mine so that I can continue raising money for charity."

On Sunday Jake's pack was spotted by local woman, Rachael Thomas. She met up with Jake and took him to where she had found it.

The pack was in bushes not far from where he was camped.

"It was your classic smash 'n' grab ransack, with stuff strewn around everywhere," he said. "But I've managed to salvage most of it and, importantly, my pack and sentimental items have survived."

Jake thanked local people who had share d his initial Facebook appeal as well as offering him various items, money, and kindness.

"Thank you all so much, you've rescued my challenge and simultaneously been an example of what can be accomplished through kindness," he said.
