HE had never run a half marathon or competed in any type of a long distance race before, but that didn’t stop Gareth Evans going the extra mile for charity this month.

Gareth, who runs The Atramont Arms pub in Croesgoch, took the brave decision to tackle the Manchester Half Marathon, in order to raise funds for Alzheimer’s Research UK.

He did so in memory of his late grandfather Thomas Myrddin Evans, who suffered with the disease.

And his efforts proved worthwhile as Gareth, 32, not only completed the race in two hours 21 minutes, but raised more than £1300 for his chosen charity in the process.

Afterwards, Gareth thanked everyone who had made donations and helped him raise funds for a worthy cause.
