Temptation got the better of a Milford Haven teenager who sold an Apple Watch he stole from his sister’s bedroom, a court has heard.

Ieuan David Lloyd, 18, of Charles Street, pleaded guilty to theft and fraud by false representation when he appeared before Haverfordwest magistrates on Tuesday.

The bench heard that Lloyd stole an Apple Watch worth £269, belonging to Luke Dyer in Neyland on October 21, then pretended he was the lawful owner to sell it to Michael Mathias for £80.

Vaughan Pritchard-Jones, prosecuting, told the court that the watch belonged to Lloyd’s sister’s boyfriend and had been left in her room.

Lloyd called round to his mother’s house and was heard to go upstairs and into the bedrooms.

His sister noticed the watch was missing when she returned home later that day.

Vaughan Pritchard-Jones said: “They made enquiries and found that the watch was being offered for sale in Facebook.

"It transpired that a gentleman had responded to the advert, met up with the defendant and paid him £80 for it.”

The watch was later recovered, leaving Mr Mathias out of pocket.

Jonathan Webb, defending, said Lloyd had fully admitted the offence when interviewed by the police.

He added: “The defendant at that time found himself in a situation where he had very little money.

“He was at his mum’s house to wash clothes, he saw the watch and temptation got the better of him.

“He did not have any finances at that time, but is now in a different situation, with accommodation and a new girlfriend. He is on a different path now and is seeking work as an apprentice to return to college.”

Magistrates imposed a 12 month conditional discharge and ordered Lloyd to pay £80 compensation to Mr Mathias.

He will also pay £85 court costs and a £20 victim surcharge.

The chairman of the bench said: “That wasn’t a very nice thing to do. It means your family won’t trust you and will be careful about what they leave lying around.”
