PEMBROKESHIRE is to be highlighted on the silver screen yet again, with the trailer release of Their Finest, a World War Two romantic comedy featuring many location shots in the county.

Their Finest, based on the 2009 novel Their Finest Hour and a Half by Lissa Evans, saw filming in many locations in the county during late 2015.

Locations used include Porthgain, Freshwater West and Cresswell Quay under the working title of Their Finest Hour and a Half.

The film, expected to go on general release in March, tells the story of Catrin Cole, played by former Bond girl Gemma Arterton, who lands herself a job writing copy for propaganda films. Her natural flair quickly gets her noticed by movie producer Buckley, played by Sam Claflin, famous for his role in The Hunger Games movies.

With the country’s morale at stake, Catrin, Buckley and a colourful crew work furiously to make a film that will warm the hearts of the nation.

It also stars Bill Nighy, who has also featured in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies.

At the time, Pembrokeshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Transportation and Major Events, Councillor Rob Lewis said: “We are delighted that the production team behind Their Finest Hour...And a Half chose Pembrokeshire as a location.

“Thanks to the sunny, dry weather they enjoyed during their filming, I’m sure that places like Porthgain, Freshwater West and Cresselly are going to look stunning on the big screen.

“This is the third feature film to be shot in Pembrokeshire this year following Bad Education and Me Before You, so the county will be getting a lot of valuable exposure in cinemas next year.”

In 2009, scenes from blockbuster films Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and Robin Hood starring Russell Crowe were filmed at Freshwater West while in 2012 Marloes beach was used for Snow White and the Huntsman.

Councillor Lewis added: “I am pleased that Pembrokeshire is becoming a focus for film companies looking for magnificent scenery.

“Not only do these moves showcase the county but they also bring in valuable revenue.

“This is not only during the time of shooting the film - with accommodation costs for the cast and crew - but also afterwards when cinema-goers spend holidays in Pembrokeshire after seeing it on big screen.”
