AN APPEAL is being made for people to attend the funeral of a 98-year-old ex-serviceman to give him "the best possible send-off".
Widower Tommy Barrett, of Haverfordwest, who died on Thursday, was a paratrooper in the Second World War.
Young mum Jess Wharton - who with her partner and a friend raised money to buy a new boiler for Mr Barrett two years ago - is hoping that as many people as possible will be able to pay their last respects to the old soldier.
Describing him as "an amazing man", and a "renowned and brave paratrooper in WW2", Jess, of St Florence, said: "We want to give Tommy the best possible send-off, one he thoroughly deserves for the amazing man he was.
"Also, if any ex-servicemen/women could attend too, that would be fantastic."
Tommy's funeral will be held on Thursday, February 16, at 3.15pm at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth.
