A burger from Tenby is taking on the best in Britain in a national contest next week.

Less than a year after opening Indie Burger, in the town's Upper Frog Street, cousins Tommy James and Josh Bevan are hoping that their Brooklyn creation will tempt the tastebuds of judges in the National Burger Awards.

It is one of just 16 recipes chosen out of over 1,000 submitted from across the UK to make the competition final Featuring a 100 per cent Welsh beef patty topped with home-made bacon jam, bacon, Brooklyn lager-braised onions and New York-style cheese in the centre of a brioche bun, the burger will be created by Tommy, aged 31, in the live final at Islington Metal Works next Wednesday.

The cook-off will also see two technical challenges, with finalists creating a burger from ingredients supplied to them and from a mystery box.

Josh, aged 26, who previously worked in renewable energy, and Tommy, who continues his profession as a chef, had been talking about opening a burger restaurant since 2009.

"Our aim was to do one thing and do it well, and the time was right last year. Since we opened in May, the comments from our customers have been nothing but positive, so we hope the judges agree!"

Adjudicating the contest will be Tom Byng of Byron Burger fame, DJ BBQ and Richard Turner, with a cash prize of £1,000 served up to the overall winner.
