TWO Dyfed-Powys Police officers are due to face trial after pleading not guilty to charges of fraud and accessing unauthorised data.

Gareth Clement, 54, of Newport Road, Crymych and Timothy Pawlett, 52, Bethany Row, Haverfordwest, appeared before Llanelli magistrates on Thursday, February 23.

Clement, a PC, was charged with between November 11, 2015 and February 2, 2016 at Fishguard Port committing fraud by dishonestly making false representation by claiming payment for time not worked, causing a loss of £804.96 to Dyfed-Powys Police.

A second charge of causing a computer to perform a function with intent to secure unauthorised access to a program or data held in a computer or to enable any such access to be so secured contrary to the Computer Misuse Act 1990, between January 1, 2012 and August 31, 2016, was also denied.

Pawlett, a DC, denies a charge of committing fraud by dishonestly made a false representation by claiming payment for time not worked, causing a loss of £1,170 to Dyfed-Powys Police between November 1, 2015 and February 16, 2016 at Fishguard Port.

The case was sent for trial on March 24 at Swansea Crown Court.

A spokesman for Dyfed-Powys Police said: "We can confirm that two Dyfed-Powys Police officers – Gareth Clement and Tim Pawlett – appeared at Llanelli Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, February 23.

"Both were reported for fraud by misrepresentation, and Mr Clement has also been charged under the Computer Misuse Act."

Clement has been suspended from duty but Pawlett has not, added the spokesman.
