PUPILS at Pembroke Dock Community School celebrated World Book Day, March 2, in style as a majority of pupils dressed up as their favourite book character to come into school.

There were many activities throughout the day but the highlight was a rolling program of reading which meant that there was a different class reading a selection of their favourite books at every point of the school day.

Many of the teachers dressed up too and there were some outstanding outfits on show.

The World Book Day story writing competition was a success and the winners from the year groups were as follows: Early Years, Abigail Bethany; Reception, Libby Lewis; Year 2, Freya Cook; Year 3, Grace Donnachie; Year 4, Harrison Vaughan; and Year 6, Jessica Austwick.

Pupils also recently enjoyed a Greek immersion day, where the youngsters completed their passports in Welsh and ensured their boarding passes were ready.

After going through passport control and security checks, the children boarded the plane, where they watched the safety videos, had refreshments and safely landed in ‘Greece’.

During their ‘stay’, the children took part in various activities. They enjoyed tasting traditional Greek foods including olives, feta cheese and pitta bread, writing descriptions of each. The children did a fantastic performance of a traditional Greek Dance and even created a postcard to send home using the art of mosaics. To end the day, the children created a holiday album of all their snaps throughout the day, before ‘flying’ back to Wales.
