Haverfordwest licensee, Brian Harries, who has raised over half a million pounds for a multitude of good causes over the years, has been presented with the British Empire Medal.

The award was announced in The Queen’s New Year’s Honours as recognition of his voluntary and charitable services.

Brian, who runs the Bristol Trader, was presented with the BEM by the Lord-Lieutenant of Dyfed, Miss Sara Edwards, in a ceremony in County Hall, Haverfordwest, on Tuesday.

Originally from St Davids, Brian is a well-known Pembrokeshire personality, having previously hosted his own show on BBC Radio Wales.

He regularly comperes dozens of charity auctions throughout the year, not only in Pembrokeshire but throughout the country.

An active member of Haverfordwest Rotary Club, he is particularly prominent for his work with Prostate Cymru, sitting on the charity’s Welsh Management Committee and serving as Chairman of Pembrokeshire Friends of Prostate Cymru.

The cancer charity, Tenovus, is another organisation which has benefitted from Brian’s fund-raising skills along with the Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital appeal for which he helped raise £150,000.

Next year Brian will be President of the Pembrokeshire Agricultural Society, organisers of the annual County Show.
