A MOTHER and baby are doing well, after being rushed to hospital by armed police officers this morning.
Pembrokeshire Armed Response officers, PCs Darren Trevan and John Woodcock were on patrol near St Clears, Carmarthenshire, when they were overtaken by what first appeared to be a speeding driver.
After pulling the motorist over to the side of the road it quickly became apparent that one of the passengers - a heavily pregnant woman - was in the very final stages of labour.
Quick-thinking PC Woodcock drove the couple’s car to Glangwili Hospital, escorted by PC Trevan, leaving the driver and dad-to-be to comfort his partner.
A spokesman for Dyfed-Powys Police said: "Thankfully they all made it to the nearest hospital just in time for the birth of a lovely baby boy.
"Mother, father and baby are all doing well and both officers are recovering from the effects of shock!"
Police tweeted about the surprise delivery, with the hash tag #notallheroeswearcapes.
