THE car was the star once again on Sunday, June 11, as some 150 classic and modern motors took to the roads of Pembrokeshire for the annual Preseli Bluestone Run 2017.

The event, organised by Jeff and Sian Edwards of Milford Haven, the second of their Pembrokeshire motoring events, was held in aid of the British Heart Foundation (BHF).

Despite the wind, and one or two slight showers, the day was bright and sunny, with around 150 motor vehicles and motorbikes lined up along the entire seafront of Gelliswick Bay and almost to the top of Gelliswick Hill between 9.30am until the start at 11.30am.

Exhibits of all ages took part, from the early days of motoring to head-turning exhibits from the 21st century, some of which made a round trip of 200-300 miles just to take part in the popular event.

There to welcome everyone on their arrival at Gelliswick Bay were Jeff and Sian, members of the BHF, Milford Haven Mayor Cllr Colin Sharp and Consort Cllr Guy Woodham, Pembrokeshire County council Cabinet member Cllr Phil Baker, along with the popular and well-known couple Peter and Joyce Stock with their Pembrokeshire and Welsh flags.

At 11.30am the grand parade led by Raymond and Julie Dawes from Cwmbran in their ever-popular and well-known delightful Morris Minor Panda car made their departure from Gelliswick Bay, via the private road, with kind permission of Simon Nicholas and Puma Energy.

Sian, councillors Colin Sharp, Guy Woodham and Phil Baker bid them all a farewell complete with a farewell from Jeff when the vehicles arrived at the Dale Road.

The 55 mile motoring tour took in Milford Haven and Haverfordwest, then over the Preseli Hills of Preseli Bluestone and Stonehenge fame. After a halfway stop, courtesy of the Dyfed Shire Horse Farm, they then made their way around the stunning Bluestone countryside passing both the ‘rock of boulders’ where it is believed that the stone came from in the building of Stonehenge, and the stone in memory of the famous Pembrokeshire poet Waldo Williams.

After passing through both Maenclochog and Bethesda, the run ended in the Town Moor Park in Narberth, where Narberth Mayor Cllr Ruth Platt and Consort Michael Platt greeted them.

The Preseli Bluestone Run 2017 was another great success and over the years it has raised thousands of pound for the British Heart Foundation.

The Preseli Bluestone Run 2018, again in aid of the BHF, will take place on June 10, 2018.

The third Pembrokeshire county motoring event will be the very popular Western Telegraph Pembrokeshire County Run 2017, now in its 20th year, on Sunday September 3.
