A Narberth man has been found not guilty this afternoon of causing the death of another motorist by dangerous driving.

But Peter Pritchard, aged 40, will be sentenced on July 7 for a lesser offence of causing death by careless driving, which he had admitted.

Following the end of a trial at Swansea crown court Pritchard, of Lanes End, Nestor Square, was immediately banned from driving.

Judge Paul Thomas agreed to a request by his defence team to delay sentencing to allow time for a probation officer to prepare a report into his background.

Judge Thomas granted bail meanwhile but warned Pritchard that all sentencing options remained open to the court.

The jury had heard how Pritchard’s Toyota Yaris veered across double white lines as he pulled way from the roundabout on the A40 at St Clears at about 8pm on Decemver 12, 2015.

His Yaris hit a Renault Clio killing the driver, Gareth Andrew Llewellyn.

Mr Llewellyn, aged 51, had been descending towards the roundabout from the direction of Whitland.

He was faced with two lanes in the opposite direction, with a double white line protecting his single lane.

Pritchard had been driving up the hill and away from the roundabout but in the outside lane.

After the collision Pritchard told police he may have been dazzled by the headlights of the Clio.

“It was like someone holding a torch in my face.

“The next thing I knew I was spinning around,” he added.

Pritchard said he thought he had been in his lane and could not explain how the impact appeared to have happened on Mr Llewellyn’s side of the road.

Judge Thomas said that before sentencing Pritchard he wanted a victim impact statement from Mr Llewellyn’s family.
