A TEAM of cyclists from Fishguard port has tackled 230 miles by bike and climbed the three peaks of Snowdon, Cadair Idris and Pen y Fan, all in four days, so far raising a whopping £3,500 for Withybush Cancer Day Unit Appeal.

The workmates decided to build on the success of last year's Port 2 Port Cycle from Holyhead to Fishguard in memory the late Andrew Sinnott.

This year they introduced an added twist, switching clips and cleats for walking boots and hiking the Welsh three peaks on the way.

The seven cyclists set off from Holyhead on Thursday, June 22. They cycled between 50 and 70 miles each day, climbing a mountain a day for the first three days and covering 75 miles on day four.

They have, so far raised more than £1,330 through online sponsorship on www.everyclick.com/port2port with a further sum being pledged on individual sponsor forms.

"It went well," said cyclist Gwilym Evans. "It was tough, some parts were tougher than others.

"It was touch and go on day two, we climbed Cader Idris in horrific weather, came down, changed and got straight on the bikes.

"It was mentally tough but we kept each other going. The high points for me were getting to the top of each mountain and hitting the home stretch on day four."

All the money raised from the cycle ride will go to Withybush's Cancer Day Unit Appeal.

"Cancer is a disease that touches all of us at some point in our lives, be it directly or a friend or family member," said Gwilym.

"Our aim is to raise as much as possible for this cause to help them to continue to do the fantastic work they do."
