ST DAVIDS RNLI inshore lifeboat was launched last night, July 28, to assist a man cut off by the tide at Porthlleuog at the northern end of Whitesands beach.

The lifeboat was launched at 9.12pm.

By the time the lifeboat and St Davids coastguards had arrived he had climbed about 30ft up a 90ft cliff but, finding that the cliff face was loose, had decided not to attempt to go further.

The coastguard cliff rescue team evaluated the possibility of a rope rescue but considered that the cliff was too dangerous and suggested that a helicopter rescue would be necessary.

The man was able to climb part way back down the cliff, where he was met by two lifeboat crew who assisted him down to the boat.

He was landed onto Whitesands beach uninjured but shaken by his experience.

The lifeboat returned to station arriving back at 9.50pm.
