MP Stephen Crabb has said it was a miracle his son got out alive following a terrifying car crash in France.

Mr Crabb posted on his Facebook page that Ioan, who is on holiday with his auntie and uncle following his GCSEs, had a “miracle” escape after their car was hit by a driver over the drink drive limit and allegedly under the influence of cocaine.

The crash happened on Saturday night near Mondragon, north of Avignon and five people were taken to hospital, including one with serious injuries.

He posted a dramatic picture of the seriously damaged car published on French news website ledauphine.com.

Ioan, and his family members, escaped with just cuts and bruises said Mr Crabb.

“Miracle that my son got out of this alive yesterday. He was enjoying a holiday post GCSEs with his auntie and uncle in France. They were hit on the motorway by another car whose driver was over the limit and under influence of cocaine. They all emerged with cuts, bruises and burns. The other driver fled the scene but was later arrested by police and has been charged. So much to be thankful for right now. Life is precious,” he said.

Ledauphine.com reports that three vehicles were involved and the driver that fled was caught by police a few kilometres from the scene at Bollene.
