Jeffreyston

THE death occurred on July 8 at Withybush Hospital of Mr Kieran Arthur Phelan of Honey’s Croft, Jeffreyston, Kilgetty. He was 63.

Kieran was born in 1954 in Woking, Surrey, to Arthur and Margaret Phelan, he shared a happy childhood with his brother and two sisters.

Upon leaving school he trained as a mechanic with Mercedez Benz. In 1989 he came to Pembrokeshire to be the After Sales Manager at County Services in Haverfordwest and worked for them until he started his own business in Pembroke Dock.

He retired in 2015 due to ill health.

Kieran played football for and managed Saundersfoot.

He also played for Lawrenny and St Florence. His other interests were darts and he enjoyed fishing with his late father-in-law John. Over the past couple of years he had enjoyed going out for lunch with his wife Janet and their little dog Arthur, sometimes meeting friends in different parts of the county.

The family left to mourn are Janet (wife); Keiran and Kevin (sons); Amelia, Kelsey, James, Toni, Ben and Riley (grandchildren).

He was predeceased by his son Jamie.

The funeral service was held at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, on July 20 and was officiated by Father Paul Davies.

The bearers were Keiran and Kevin (sons); Raymond Pullin (friend); Ryan Morton (nephew); Gareth Gwyther (friend); Jonathan Eynon (brother-in-law).

Mr A J Murdoch

Stepaside

MR Alistair James Murdoch (affectionately known as John) passed away on June 20 at the age of 95.

He was a native of Portsoy, Banffshire, Scotland.

Alistair joined the RAF in 1939 at the age of 17 and served with the 270 Squadron of Sunderland Flying Boats, he was stationed at various bases along the Atlantic Coast, involved in the reconnaissance of enemy submarines and u-boats. He was a Dunkirk evacuee. He was then stationed at Pembroke Dock where he met Peggy and they married in 1952. After leaving the RAF Alistair took up a position with the Anglo-African Timber Company on the Gold Coast, West Africa. In 1955 he purchased the Commercial Inn, Stepaside, later called the Stagecoach Inn where he was landlord until 1987.

His main interests in retirement was gardening, mainly growing vegetables, and he produced award winning tomatoes. He also enjoyed walking the coast path. In his later years he liked watching sport on TV, especially horse racing and rugby.

He was predeceased by his wife Marguerite Catherine Maud Murdoch (Peggy).

The family left to mourn are Alistair and Joy (son and daughter); Janet (daughterin- law); Michael and Moyra (nephew and niece, Scotland); Elizabeth, Catherine and Rosemary (nieces).

The funeral service was held at Parc Gwyn Crematorium and was officiated by Revd Steven M Bessant.

The bearers were Michael Imlach, Terry Jones, Wayne Williams and Brian Fellowes.

Mr C W Potter

Haverfordwest

HIS many friends and former colleagues will be saddened to learn of the recent death at Withybush General Hospital, of Mr Clive William Potter of Silverstone, Haven Road, Haverfordwest.

Aged 81, the deceased was a native of Croydon - the eldest of four brothers - and had not enjoyed good health for a number of years.

In his younger days he had joined the Fleet Air Arm of the Royal Navy and served on board HMS Ark Royal, the aircraft carrier and former flagship of the Royal Navy, before becoming stationed at HMS Goldcrest, Brawdy.

It was whilst being based locally that he met and later married Glenys Harries of Hayscastle, a teacher who had trained and taught in Birmingham before returning to posts at Mathry, Brawdy and Johnston.

After a happy and enjoyable marriage, Glenys sadly passed away just seven years ago.

On retirement from the Navy, Clive had taken up a post as a process operator for some 30 years at the Gulf (later Chevron) Refinery where he earned the respect and admiration of wide circle of friends and colleagues.

A gentleman of a quiet disposition, in his leisure time he gained a lot of satisfaction from his music and playing the guitar. He was also a successful fisherman and, occasionally, played a mean round of golf.

He is survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Pamela in Australia, Gordon and Brenda in Croydon, Brenda (widow of the late Roger Potter) and a brother-in-law and sister-inlaw, David and Jenny Harries of Hayscastle.

The funeral service took place at Noddfa Newton Baptist Church, Hayscastle when a large gathering of friends were present to pay their last respects. Rev Aled Jenkins presided over the service which preceded interment at the adjoining cemetery.

The bearers were Tony Steven, Joel and Marcus Reed (nephews).

There were family flowers only but donations in lieu for the UK’s lung charity, The British Lung Foundation, are being gratefully accepted by the undertakers, Paul Jenkins & Sons, Fiedr Castell, Fishguard.

Mrs A V Coleman

Pembroke Dock

THE death occurred at Withybush General Hospital on July 8 of Mrs Anne Valeria Coleman of Front Street, Pembroke Dock. She was 57.

Originally from Lydd, Romney Marsh, Kent she worked at Castlemartin Barracks Hospital, as a playground assistant at Pembroke Dock Community School and also assisted with school dinners.

She enjoyed keeping fit, walking, running, crosswords and general writing, local history, her children - encouraging them in their sporting activities, her pets Toffee the dog and cats Ginger, Tigger and Sasha.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Zoe, Ryan and Luke (children); their dad Dave; Marilyn and Maureen (sister); Graham and families (brother).

The funeral service was held at St John’s Church, Pembroke Dock on July 28 followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn Crematorium. It was officiated by Revd Marina Evans and the bearers were Dave, Ryan and Luke Coleman, Graham Winnicott, Ian Morrell and Wayne Stone.

Mr P C Bunyan

Johnston

MR Philip Charles Bunyan of Langford Road, Johnston passed away on July 9 at Withybush Hospital.

He was 70.

Originally from Pembroke Dock he started work at the old woollen factory as an apprentice fitter, and then went to work with TARMAC at the Power Station for three years before going to Firth Cleaveland in Ferry Lane as a fitter for 11 years.

When B & I came to Pembroke Dock he had a change of career and worked there until he was made redundant in 1985.

For the next five years he was employed by Walter Williams Garage in London Road.

He then became self-employed making wooden products until his retirement at the age of 65.

His main interests were his home and his family. He also enjoyed working with wood and all forms of DIY, playing and listening to guitar music.

The family left to mourn are Irene (wife); Glenn and Craig (sons); Georgia and William Bunyan (grandchildren); Audrey (sister-inlaw); Tracy and Dean (niece and nephew); Meg Dawkins (cousin, Hampshire).

The funeral service was held at the graveside in Llanion Cemetery, Pembroke Dock on July 19 and was officiated by Rev Huw Michael.

Mr P S Rees

Pembroke Dock

MR Peter Sinclaire Rees of Amphion Court, Pembroke Dock passed away on July 12 at Morriston Hospital, Swansea.

He was 69.

During his working life he worked as a chef at Merrion Camp, Castlemartin before starting the family business, Rees Bros Taxis.

After leaving the family business, he worked for the Hire Company at Silcox Coaches.

His main interests were horse racing and reading.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners were Gillian (sister); Philip and Paul (brothers); Janet (sisterin- law); Shan (partner); Martin and Lesley (brother-inlaw and sister-in-law).

He was predeceased by his wife Janet Rees.

The funeral service was held at St Teilo’s Church, Pembroke Dock followed by interment at Llanion Cemetery and it was officiated by Revd Nicky Skipworth.

The bearers were Philip Rees, Paul Rees, Richard Maynard and Martin Piddington.

MRS Pamela Joy Lewis of Williamson Street, Orange Gardens, Pembroke passed away at Withybush Hospital on June 2.

The family left to mourn are Penny and Alan (daughter and son-in-law); Clive and Teresa (son and daughterin- law); Stephanie and Stephen, Melanie and Jamie, Rhodri, Joan, Iestyn and Celyn (grandchildren and partners); Alan (brother).

She was predeceased by her husband Charlie in 2008.

The funeral service was held at Parc Gwyn on June 12 and it was officiated by Rev Marianne Osborne.

The bearers were Stephanie and Melanie Owens (granddaughters); Stephen Jones and Jamie Alderman (respective partners).

Lee died unexpectedly after a very short illness on August 10, with her family at her bedside in Withybush General Hospital.

A funeral service will be held at Parc Gwyn crematorium on Tuesday, August 22, at 2.30pm.
