A JUNOR Sister at Amman Valley Hospital is running a half marathon to raise money for the ward.
Rhianydd Edwards will be running the Cardiff Half Marathon on October 1 in aid of Cysgod y Cwm Ward.
Rhianydd recently started working at Cysgod y Cwm, and she’s eager to raise money for her new place of work.
“I’m specifically raising money to purchase new cushions for the patients on the ward, because I want to make a difference to patient experience” said Rhianydd.
In the past, Rhianydd has completed six full marathons, one 40-mile Ultra Marathon, as well as the Cardiff Half Marathon last year.
She is part of a family of runners, and enjoys the friendly competition with her partner and eldest daughter as they run a park run together every Saturday and train several times a week.
Rhianydd, who has been nursing for 20 years, said: “I live locally to Amman Valley Hospital, and feel privileged that I can work in the local community and look after local people.
“I’m passionate about providing care of the highest standard, and I feel that new cushions will make a big difference to patient experience in Cysgod y Cwm.”
Amman Valley Community Hospital has one inpatient ward - Cysgod y Cwm - and many busy outpatient clinics operating from the site.
Cysgod y Cwm is a 28-bed ward comprised of both GP and consultant-led beds, including two individual rooms used for palliative care.
