A NIGHT time call-out to a possible boat in trouble was just one of a range of jobs for the team at Fishguard Coastguard this week.

At around 9pm on Monday, the team was called to Aberforrest beach, where they were met by Moylegrove Coastguard crew.

After locating the vessel in the dark, they escorted the boat back to Newport beach – with assistance from Fishguard & Goodwick RNLI Lifeboat Station, and the one adult and five children on board were met by coastguard officers.

On Tuesday (August 15), after being called to a boat with engine trouble near Pwllgwaelod, where Fishguard and Goodwick RNLI helped tow the vessel back to its moorings, it was off to Whitesands, where a child had been reported missing.

After a short search, which included St Davids Coastguard and Dyfed-Powys Police, the child was found and returned to its mother.

The next day, the team was called to Cwm yr Eglwys near Dinas, following reports of a swimmer in difficulty.

On arrival it became clear the swimmer was fine and it was in fact a support boat that was following him was a casualty when it ran out of fuel.

A passing RIB gave assistance and returned the swimmer and casualty vessel to the slipway.

Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust were stood down, also in attendance were Fishguard & Goodwick RNLI Lifeboat Station and HM Coastguard - Moylegrove

On Thursday, a call came in from Milford Haven Coastguard about an overturned vessel at Fisherman’s Quay.

Later that day, the team was paged to back up Broad Haven Coastguard Rescue Team with a cliff rescue at watch house point St Ishmaels.

Dyfed-Powys Police marine unit was on the scene and put an officer ashore with the young male who had been kite surfing.

Due to the heavy undergrowth on the cliff, the coastguard rescue helicopter was tasked to winch the casualty and the officer off the cliff and drop them with the rescue teams and crew.
