AN incredible evening of song and celebration took place recently at St Davids Cathedral, thanks to three decades of support from Valero Pembroke Refinery.

The cathedral saw Côr Meibion De Cymru – the South Wales Male Choir – undertake its 30th annual concert.

With spectacular supporting performances from sopranos Llio Evans and Sian Dicker, and with invited guests including the choir’s president Wyn Calvin, the Côr Meibion De Cymru choristers completed a spellbinding set of Welsh and international hymns and songs to a captivated audience.

Also included during the evening was a special presentation from the choir to Alun John, the first conductor of Côr Meibion De Cymru, as well as recognition for Valero’s £5,000 sponsorship of the choir that enables Wales’ only truly regional male voice choir to continue to bring their magnetic and distinctive repertoire to audiences across the world.

Philip Howells from Côr Meibion De Cymru said: “It is 30 years since our first annual concert took place in St David’s Hall in Cardiff, sponsored by the then owners of Pembroke Refinery, Texaco, and it is with great pleasure that this association between the South Wales Male Choir and the refinery is still as strong today.”

Refinery Public Affairs Manager Stephen Thornton said: “Pembroke Refinery is incredibly proud of our long-established support for Côr Meibion De Cymru. Male voice choirs are one of Wales’ great cultural gifts to the world, and Valero is delighted to be able to continue this enduring partnership for the benefit of audiences across Wales and further afield.”
