Heaven was a half-pipe at second Pembroke Dock skateboarding competition

One of the organisers of the August 27 event was local skateboarder and photographer Owen Howells, who has been involved in the Pembrokeshire skateboarding scene for more than 15 years.

After the success of last year’s event, this year saw the competition expanded to include the three different categories.

The mini ramp competition, where entrants have 40 seconds to perform a sequence of tricks on the three foot half-pipe.

The second competition was Best trick; where the whole park was opened up for 45 minutes to all entrants.

There was also the game of S-K-A-T-E, where entrants go head-to-head challenging each other to perform a particular trick. If the other competitor cannot successfully perform the trick they receive a letter. The first to receive all five letters of S-K-A-T-E losing.

Winners were, Mini ramp under 16s: 1st Leon Lewis, 2nd Callum Lew-is, 3rd Daisy Howells; Mini ramp open: 1st Nathan John, 2nd Jack Steele, 3rd Conor Ratcliffe; Best trick: 1st Jack Steele, joint 2nd Nathan John and Wayne Harris; Game of S-K-A-T-E: 1st Jack Steele, 2nd Jason Harris.

Owen said: “Congratulations to all the winners, and everyone who competed. Judging was very hard this year with the standard being so high. Skaters came from as far as Newport and Fishguard to compete.

“Thanks to Sam Ryder and Craig Brown for judging, Graham Da Gama Howells, Dilys Burrell, Max Burrell, and Chris Goodman for their parts in making the event a success.

“Thank you to Undergroundsurf Tenby for the huge box of prizes (plus I'm stoked with my new hat), and also Dalatando Almeida & Co for bringing even more! Fair to say lots of people went home with some great gear.

“Finally a big thanks to town clerk Sarah Scourfield and Pembroke Dock Town Council for making this event possible. It’s a great facility to have in Pembroke Dock and is helping train some serious skate-boarding talent in the area.”
