THE first event to support the renovation of Haverfordwest’s iconic Old Post Office building will take place this week.

The community group behind Quay Street’s Haverhub will hold an opening gig this Friday night (September 8) with music by Honey Fungus, Tough Love Wales, and Old Habits, with doors opening at 7pm.

The Party at the Old Post Office will also feature street food made by local chefs, a bar, and a raffle, with all proceeds going towards the renovation efforts.

The community group, led by Gitti Coats, hope bring new life to the iconic building with a community and activity centre, including a market, youth centre, offices, meeting rooms, and shared working spaces.

Haverhub have set a goal of raising £15,000 to start repairs to the building, with their first aim being to repair the roof and the toilets.

They were given the green light on the project in August when the building’s owner, Jerry Evans of Jemima Properties, offered to lease it to them.

The project has gained the support of Game of Thrones and Ripper Street star, Jerome Flynn, who has agreed to become a patron of the community group, and also will be there on the night.

Stephen Crabb, MP for Preseli-Pembrokeshire has also given his support to Haverhub and said it could bring fresh ideas and commerce to the town centre.
