EFFORTS to bring a group of children affected by the Grenfell tower tragedy to north Pembrokeshire for a week's respite are ongoing this week, as the county's Singing for Fun groups put on a fundraising concert this Saturday, September 16.

The Friends of Treginnis Farms for City Children needs to raise £10,000 needed to bring a group of 39 children from the Grenfell area to Lower Treginis Farm for City Children next month. A successful summer fete has so far raised around £7,000.

The group of children is from Solidarity Sports, a small charity which runs projects to enhance the lives of disadvantaged children in London, to Lower Treginnis.

Solidarity Sports was founded by Sean Mandez who is from the Grenfell area and experienced the horror of the fire at first hand. Two of the children missing in the tragedy had close links with the charity, having spent four summers taking part in the charity's summer programme.

"We are very grateful for the generous efforts of Farms for City Children and other people who have so kindly raised funds for our holiday in October," said Sean.

"This really means a great deal to us and our children are super excited. The holiday will give our children a well-deserved break from the hustle of city life and allow them to explore nature and learn to look after animals, which can be very therapeutic.

"Our children are still suffering from the terrible effects of the fire. It is clear to us that the trauma will last a long time and there is no quick fix.

"We know that children are still scared, having flashbacks and hearing screams from the terrible event. They are struggling to come to terms with scenes they have witnessed and losing best friends in the fire.

"This is reflected in their behaviour, which can be very challenging with some children. We are doing our best to reassure them and help them to feel safe. There is a profound sadness amongst many of our children."

This Saturday's Singing for Fun concert will take place at Letterston Memorial Hall it starts at 7pm and will finish at 8.15pm.

The light-hearted mini-concert of popular musical favourites is free to attend. There will be a bucket collection at the end of the concert, as well as a raffle and refreshments. Every single penny raised will go to the Grenfell Tower holiday fund.
