DYFED-Powys Police is investigating the circumstances of a series of oil spills on the Ironman Wales cycle route on Sunday, September 10.
Several oil spills on the road between Narberth and Saundersfoot were reported to police on the day of Ironman Wales hours before the 112-mile bike ride was due to start.
Oil was discovered on the sharp corner of the hill from Coppet Hall to Wisemans Bridge in the early hours of Sunday. Ironman Wales organisers confirmed that cyclists were being diverted past St Issells Church because of this.
Pembrokeshire County Council said the spill was treated by Pembrokeshire County Council workmen.
Other oil spills at Princes Gate and Summer Hill were reported on social media. At present it is unclear if the oil was placed on the route deliberately.
“Pembrokeshire Roads Policing Unit is making enquiries to establish the circumstances surrounding these oil spills,” said a police spokesman.
“Anyone with information is asked to report it to PC 1165 Dewaine by calling the non-emergency 101 number.”
