HUNDREDS of pounds were donated to Withybush hospital ward from the proceeds of an annual charity golfing competition.

Every year the village of Roch plays a charity golf tournament called ‘the Roch Open’, and this year £720 was raised and given to Withybush’s cancer care ward.

The event’s organisers Sue Pasternak, 62, and Steve Harper, 61, both visited ward 10 to present the cheque to the staff themselves.

Senior ward sister Helen Johns said: “We are very lucky as a ward to receive donations and we are grateful for them.

"We use them for a lot of the equipment we buy.”

Steve Harper said: “This year we decided we would really try to go all out. One of our organisers, Sue Watts passed away last year from a brain tumour. We felt that we wanted to raise funds to go to the ward that looked after her.”

The Roch open has previously donated money to the cardiac ward of the hospital and to their local parish church, St Mary’s.

48 players of all abilities turned up for this year’s Roch Open, with Paul Berrigan claiming the first place plaque.

The competition’ organisers were thankful to Priskilly Forest Golf Club, where the charity tournament was played.
