BRITHDIR Mawr community, outside Newport, will be throwing open its doors this Saturday, September 30, for its free Brithdir Mawr Community Harvest Fair.

The event follows a highly successful spring fair last Esaster and is part of the fundraising efforts to save the low impact, sustainable community, founded in 1994.

The owner of the farm building and attached land needs to sell it by January 2020 and is giving the community first refusal.

The 15 adults and five children living there off-grid, farming according to organic principles and working towards sustainability need to raise £500,000 and is running community fundraising events.

It also plans to build an eco-training centre which will run courses in sustainable farming and rewilding retreats the local community will also be able to take advantage of it as a meeting place and use its kitchen for events and catering.

The Harvest Fair is running from 12pm until 8pm and will include live music; workshops from sacred Geometry to Thatching; Children's activities including face painting and wooden knife making; a healing space; film showings; organic café; local real ale bar; tours of our community in English and Welsh; arts and craft stalls; jumble sale; games, apple pressing; garden tool fixing and sharpening.

There is also a raffle with prizes including a 12 string guitar, Blue Stone ales, a beautiful homemade cake, free BnB, free glamping, Burning Man glossy coffee table book and homemade preserves.

Camping is available at Brithdir Mawr at £5 per night per person.
