Manderwood Pembrokeshire Division One fixtures for Saturday, September 30th (2.30pm kick offs):
Division One:
Clarbeston Road v Neyland
Two sides in good form meet in Clarbie.
After a difficult start, the hosts have all but quashed any thoughts they might go back down with three straight league wins, while Neyland top the table with four wins from their five games.
The Nomads have a good balance this season with youngsters like Kieran Howells, Geraint Rees, Scott Jones complimenting experienced campaigners like Wayne Harry and the Hannon twins.
But they will have to be at their best tomorrow against a Clarbie side that are a solid, hard working outfit, and even without the injured Richard Bevan, they have the quality to hurt sides with Jason Griffiths grabbing seven goals in his last three league and cup matches.
On that note, Clarbie played and won 6-1 in the Senior Cup last Saturday, while Neyland's game at Kilgetty was rained off.
At times, a weekend off provides a welcome rest - but can also halt momentum. Time will tell.
Goodwick United v Angle
After two weeks away from league action, the Phoenix Boys will look to build on 10 points from four games against Angle.
Their FAW Trophy win over Rockspur United represented their best all round display of the campaign, and Jordan Griffiths continues to star with a hat-trick last Saturday.
After a great start, Angle have suffered back to back league defeats, but are more than capable of making life difficult for Wayne O'Sullivan's side tomorrow.
But they will have to find a way to keep Griffiths quiet.
Lamphey v Carew
The Stags are struggling thus far to hit the heights of last season, where they finished fifth in their first season in the top flight.
In fairness, two of their three defeats have come against Hakin and Goodwick, but it gets no easier tomorrow against a young Carew side who have hit the ground running.
And last week they proved their start was no fluke, hammering West Dragons 4-1 to go second in the table.
To prove their collective strength, The Rooks have struck 16 times in the league this season, with eight different scorers, and they will perhaps feel aggrieved to have no representatives in the Pembrokeshire squad named yesterday.
Regardless, a win tomorow would be another big statement of intent.
Merlins Bridge v Milford United
On paper, it seems his one can only go one way.
The Wizards are unbeaten in seven competitive matches so far, and as well as Nathan Greene scoring freely for them, Nathan Thomas will be equally pleased by four clean sheets on the bounce.
On the contrary, The Robins have no points from five league games, have scored just three times, and with key men missing, were knocked out of the Senior Cup by Division Two side Saundersfoot Sports last Saturday.
One consolation for Adrian Hutchings is his side have been creating chances - but not converting them. Tomorrow they can ill afford to be wasteful if they are to get anything at The Racecourse.
Monkton Swifts v Hakin United
Monkton's momentum, fired by big back to back league wins over Milford and Herbrandston, was well and truly checked last Saturday when they lost 7-5 at home to Division Two side Hundleton in the Senior Cup.
It did mean 14 goals in three games for The Swifts, suggesting they can cause Hakin problems tomorrow, but a similar defensive performance will be fatal against Nicky Woodrow, Ben Steele, Justin Harding and co.
Kristan Bennett's doesn't feel his side are firing on all cylinders at the moment, and by all accounts their 2-1 FAW Trophy win over Pencoed Athletic last week was unconvincing.
But they always have the capability of putting teams to the sword when they click, so expect the home side to throw everything into denying the champions time and space on the ball.
Narberth v Herbrandston
Another team reeling from a Senior Cup defeat to a Division Two team is Herbie - beaten 6-2 by neighbours St Ishmaels.
Oliver West's men have just three points to their name in the league thus far, while wins over Angle and Pennar have seen Narberth recover from losing their opening three matches.
A Dafydd Wright brace inspired the 4-0 win over the latter, while Herbie have been dealt a blow with the news that Scott Reid, who scored twice against Tish, is ruled out long term with a dislocated shoulder.
Either way, both sides will view this as an important chance to pick up points.
West Dragons v Pennar Robins
The Dragons are proving a difficult team to predict.
Early defeats to Merlins Bridge and Goodwick suggested they were not going to up with the leading pack this season - before a win against Hakin and revenge on The Phoenix Boys in the Senior Cup seemingly rubbished that notion.
But just when they seemed to be clicking, they were thumped at Carew last week, with player manager Steve Allen admitting his side performed badly and were outplayed.
The need to find consistency and bounce back tomorrow against a Pennar side struggling without a point this season.
But whilst it was only against Prendergast Villa, last Saturday's 6-1 Senior Cup win would have done Chris Lloyd's team a power of good - a victory under their belts and goals to boot.
They can go to The Pavilion with some renewed confidence at least.
