A SAUNDERSFOOT holiday cottage recently won gold in a national travel awards.

Paul and Sarah Pemberton celebrated after their Victorian holiday cottage conversion, Rhodewood Lodge on St Brides Hill, took the top spot in the Best in Mid & South Wales category in a national travel awards scheme by Sykes Cottages - the UK’s largest independent operator of UK holiday rental properties.

The property was restored back to its former glory by construction company owner Paul and his wife Sarah after they fell in love with the house while on holiday in Pembrokeshire.

The Sykes Gem Awards celebrate excellence in holiday cottage accommodation and saw thousands of entries from across the UK.

Judged by a panel of leading travel industry experts, Rhodewood Lodge was assessed on its style, suitability and facilities, as well as its occupancy rate and customer feedback on cleanliness, comfort, location and value for money.

Paul said: “Winning gold in such a fiercely-contested category is fantastic, especially considering we’ve only been up and running for just over a year.

“The property itself was a real labour of love – my wife and I spotted this gorgeous gothic house in 2015 and just had to buy it. The refit took a year to complete but this award means all the hard work was worth it.

Western Telegraph:

“It’s so great hearing about all the experiences and memories our guests are creating at Rhodewood Lodge – just last week I was sent a photo of four generations of one family celebrating someone’s birthday in the garden. I hope winning this award means we get to welcome even more people through the doors.”

Graham Donoghue, CEO of Sykes Cottages, added: “The Sykes Gem Awards have given us the chance to celebrate unique properties like Rhodewood Lodge and their owners. The awards uncover the best of the best in our portfolio of properties and make it even easier for holidaymakers to select the perfect break. Whether it’s about discovering the best walks, most beautiful beaches, or finding properties that suit large groups or families, there’s something to suit everyone.”
