A mother and son from Fishguard and Cardigan appeared at Swansea crown court this afternoon (Friday) to deny murdering 84 year old Betty Guy.

Mrs Guy died on November 7, 2011, and her body was cremated soon afterwards.

Her daughter, Penelope John, aged 50, and her grandson, Barry Rogers, 32, today denied her murder and an alternative charge of manslaughter.

John, of Maes y Deri, St Dogmaels, and Rogers, of High Street, Fishguard, appeared before Judge Paul Thomas for a plea and trial preparation hearing.

The court heard that the prosecution case involved 75 hours of recorded statements made by the defendants.

The pair will go on trial on January 8 before a High Court judge, Mr Justice Clive Lewis.

They were further remanded in custody meanwhile.
