THE future of Cardigan Playscheme and After School Club is looking brighter after being faced with the threat of closure.

The current committee is standing down and it was feared the scheme would shut without fresh faces, which would have been a huge loss to the town and the surrounding area.

However, following an emergency meeting several new committee members have come forward and the scheme’s future now looks assured.

Jane Jamison, the current chairperson, is stepping down at the end of the year. She has been involved with the club for 15 years and has brought in a number of successful grant applications which has enabled it to continue over the years.

She is delighted the scheme is to continue and said: “We had a very successful meeting on Wednesday, October 4.

“We have recruited five new committee members and look forward to a positive future.

“The organisation is grateful for all the support shown by the local community. We will be continuing to provide quality, affordable childcare to local families in the foreseeable future.”

Cardigan After School Club and Holiday Playscheme, based at Maeglas, provides registered childcare provision to children between three and 12. They provide a variety of opportunities for children of all abilities.

This vital service enables parents and carers to access education, employment or training opportunities while they know the children are cared for in a safe and stimulating environment.

Ceredigion County Council cabinet member for learning services, Flying Start and team around the family, Cllr Catrin Miles, said: “The Holiday Playscheme and After School Club provide a vital service to our community here in Cardigan.

“They provide affordable, accessible childcare to our families, enabling them to work both during and outside of school hours. The Holiday Playscheme recently had an excellent inspection from CSSIW.

“We are very grateful to the volunteer committee and staff for all their tireless, hard work and commitment in providing this important service.”
