HAVERFORDWEST played host to two international fixtures on the weekend as Sweden Under 18s completed their tour with two games in successive days.

The tourists took on the Sir Thomas Picton Senior XV on Friday, with the School side emerging from a fierce battle with a 10-0 win.

Will Hughes scored the game’s only try, while Jake Morgan landed a conversion and a penalty - whilst man of the match Aidan Bateman also stood out.

But STP also impressed in defence as they withstood some heavy pressure from the Swedes, with the visitors held up over the try line on several occasions

Then on Saturday evening, it was even tighter as Sweden drew 0-0 with Haverfordwest Youth RFC.

It was the tourists who had the upper hand up front, whilst the home side looked sharp out wide but paid the price for missed chances and knock-ons at crucial moments.

Sweden were hosted by Celtic Camping, owned by St Davids RFC member Ian Griffiths, and afterwards their coach Andy Stewart said: "The DHL Baltic Championship Junior Vikings would like to thank the Pembrokshire rugby community.

"Special thanks to the generous hospitaity of St Davids RFC, the great crowd at Sir Thomas Picton school and Haverfordwest RFC for a clean, tough and well officiated game of rugby - the boys really appreciated it all.

"We all have some great memories from the trip. A big thanks to everyone involved that helped us with this fantastic experience."

The trip was arranged by Stewart and Bruce Evans, head coach of Haverfordwest RFC, and Stewart and co will be back in November when the Sweden Under 20s tour Wales.
