LETTERSTON'S Luke Harding has been nominated for a Pride of Britain Award for his inspirational fundraising for Withybush's Ward 10.

Luke has been nominated as ITV Fundraiser of the Year for his "tireless and inspirational charity fundraising". Appearing on ITV Wales news on Monday he said.

"A friend of mine in New Zealand started with the wristbands. At the time we wanted to raise £100 or £200. We ended up raising £12,500."

This spurred Luke on to aim to raise £20,000 for Ward 10. A figure he is confident he will reach before Christmas this year.

Luke recently completed the Cardiff half marathon and is currently walking the Pembrokeshire Coast Path to raise more money.

"I'm only doing short pushes but I'm going to do the whole thing," he told ITV. He said as well as raising money for Ward 10 he wanted to raise awareness about lung cancer.

"If you go by statistics, I shouldn't have lung cancer but I do," he said. "It's about getting the message out there. If one person can recognise and get early diagnosis and get themselves treated, I've done my part."

On his Facebook page Luke wrote:

"It obviously goes without saying, thank you all for nominating and regardless of the result I feel humbled, honoured and privileged that you've put me forward for this prestigious award."

The other nominees for ITV Fundraiser of the Year will be shown on ITV Wales 6o'clock news all this week, with the winner being announced at the end of the week.
