HOUSEHOLDS and local councils in the Tivyside area were today clearing away the debris left behind by storm Ophelia yesterday.

Several roads in the area were blocked at the height if the storm by falling trees as 80mph roared in from the south west.

The road between Newcastle Emlyn and Cardigan was blocked near Llechryd waterworks after a large tree came down, while there were also reports of trees down between Cenarth and Abercych, Felin Road at Aberporth and Longdown Bank, St Dogamels and between Capel Dewi and Llandysul.

Drivers were also having to take care on many minor roads where branches had come down.

Part of Cardigan town centre had to be closed due to falling roof tiles, while 200 homes around Cilgerran and 200 at Eglwyswrw were without power for a time, including the school at Eglwyswrw, which had to close.

All schools in Pembrokeshire closed early, along with T Llew Jones School, Brynhoffnant, Aberporth School and Penparc School in Ceredigion.
