NEW waste collection proposals are to be put out to consultation by Ceredigion Council following a cabinet decision.

Plans include weekly clear bag recycling and food waste collection; three-weekly black-bag and glass collection; and a fortnightly collection of absorbent hygiene products which include nappies, continence pads and feminine hygiene products.

The cabinet has agreed to the new proposals in principle to allow preparations to be made to procure new refuse vehicles and waste containers.

Cllr Ray Quant said: “The waste collection service is at a challenging but exciting time for the council with decisions needing to be made to ensure savings and quality services for residents. I hope many residents will share their views in the consultation on the new proposals.”

Factors influencing any decision include the need to replace an ageing waste fleet, the need to make savings due to budget pressures and the need to meet ambitious recycling targets set by the Welsh Government.

The consultation will start in the next fortnight.
