A PEMBROKE Dock county councillor who launched a prosecution against a fellow Pembroke Dock man he accuses of harassment has had the case dropped.

Cllr Paul Dowson, of Treowen Road, initiated a private prosecution at Haverfordwest magistrates court in early September against Richard Day, of Queen Street.

Cllr Dowson alleged that Mr Day undertook a course of action between June 4 and August 26 which caused him harassment, alarm or distress.

He claimed that Mr Day harassed him on social media by making false and malicious statements which caused him distress, harassed a family member to cause a dispute and made a false statement to police which resulted in a notice being issued.

The case was later taken on board by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), and has now been dropped due to insufficient evidence.

Speaking after the decision, Mr Day, who has denied any form of harassment, said: “He’s not going to have his day in court and I will be presenting my costs.”

Mr Day said Mr Dowson had been issued with a Police Information Notice (PIN) harassment warning notice after he, Mr Day, felt he had been harassed.

Cllr Dowson, who said he had managed to get the PIN overturned, hopes to obtain a review of the decision not to pursue the case through the CPS’s victim’s right to review scheme, and was even contemplating a judicial review.

Cllr Dowson wasn’t even aware his private prosecution status had changed.

“The first I heard it was the CPS was when I get the letter telling me they weren’t proceeding, they’ve got the right to take it off you.

“All I can do is ask for a review or go for civil action, which would cost me; it’s just a shame.”
