TWO dogs who have become the best of friends after being rescued separately as strays are looking for a home where they can live together.

When 6-year-old terrier Gladys started sharing a kennel with 9-year-old jack russell Queenie at Green Acres Animal Rescue, the pair became fast friends.

Green Acres does not want to break up the pair of pooches as they have bonded so closely, and is looking for a home which can cater to both dogs.

“We often have dogs sharing kennels, that happens quite a lot,” said Green Acres manager Mikey Lawlor.

“But these two have got really close. We are ideally looking for a home for them together.”

Queenie was the first of the pair who came to Green Acres at the start of November, and when she arrived had a massive mammary tumour which had to be operated upon.

Gladys joined her new friend two weeks later, and rescue centre staff noticed she had been ill-used as a breeding doing to produce pup after pup.

The pair have settled into their shared kennel and now do everything together: eating, sleeping, and going for walks.

“They have really found an intense bond, if one is going for a walk, they both have to go,” added Mikey.

The Green Acres manager said that as Queenie is quite an old dog, any would-be owner will need to be prepared to give her extra attention in the future.

Gladys, as a middle-aged dog is in good health.

The rescue centre will not be homing any animals over the Christmas period between December 15 and January 7, but anyone interested in homing the canine companions can still get in touch over this period to enquire and start the process.

The rescue centre based near Little Haven has recently been given a year’s worth of sponsorship by Kidwelly-based Burns Pet Food.

Mikey said the centre is always thankful for food donations from the public, but the sponsorship is important as all dried pet food for the year is being provided by Burns, allowing the rescue centre to give all its dogs and cats a consistent diet.

Any adopters will be given a 2kg bag of Burns Pet Food when they rehome a dog or cat from Green Acres, as well as a helpful pet owners’ guide.
