AN 11-year-old girl who decided to sell all her books to buy food donations for a Pembrokeshire charity, has donated £145-worth of food.

Ebony Scott from Roch decided in November she would sell all of her old books to raise money she could use to buy food donations for PATCH.

After just under a month of selling books at a stall in her mother Rachael’s shop at Hilton Court, Roch, Ebony visited several supermarkets in Haverfordwest, trying to find one where she could make her money go furthest.

Rachael and Ebony visited PATCH’s base in Milford Haven on Thursday, November 30 with a car full of non-perishable food items Ebony had bought and others which members of the public had donated to her.

They also used some of the money raised to buy toys for PATCH’s Christmas toy appeal.

“I am really glad we did it,” said Rachael. “Ebony being kind has bred kindness from other people too.”

Rachael described how some people told Ebony to keep the change from 50p they spent buying books from her, and others made the effort to come back with food donations.

“We have still got some books there, so we are going to do another sale in January now.”

Rachael also thanked the managers at Lidl Haverfordwest for their help during Ebony’s food shopping.

Tracy Olin, manager at PATCH said she thought Ebony’s donation was amazing.

“We are really grateful. It will help feed people and I think it will encourage others to be as thoughtful at this time of year.

“It’s always the youngsters that get me – She has sold her belongings and has made it so useful and go so far.”

PATCH’s Christmas Toy appeal officially concludes on Saturday, December 9, but the charity welcomes food donations and other support throughout the year.
