A FIVE-mile assault course ended dramatically today, as runners collapsed with cold and exhaustion.
Another woman suffered a suspected broken ankle at the charity Christmas Mud Run near St Davids this morning
One witness told the Western Telegraph: "It was very frightening and probably one of the most dramatic ends to an event I’ve ever seen.
"People who had been out on the course for two hours were so cold and wet their bodies couldn’t cope with the aftermath.
"One woman collapsed in the shower and looked in a bad way, another collapsed outside the shower blocked, while another lady broke her ankle on one of the slides.
"Two ambulances were called and people were put in duvets to keep warm, marshalls were also offering blankets and hot drinks."
She added: "I don’t think they had enough manpower to cope with the amount of people that needed attention."
An ambulance spokesman said the incident was still ongoing, and they were unable to comment at present.
More to follow.
