THE NATIONAL Trust has teamed up with a Pembrokeshire school as part of a programme to keep the coast clean.

The National Trust and Broad Haven Community Primary School are working together to keep the community’s coastline clean as part of the charity’s junior COASTodian scheme in Wales.

More than 20 bags of litter were collected from Broad Haven beach this month as the students tackled the topic of marine pollution with National Trust ranger Matt Thompson.

The Trust has invested in litter picking kits and educational equipment for partnership working as part of the COASTodian initiative, which encourages the public to help care for their local stretch of coastline.

The schoolchildren each received a goody bag with environmental essentials and were able to learn more about the Trust’s wider work to protect the Welsh coast.

Following the successful beach clean, ranger Matt Thompson is looking forward to working with the school on wider conservation tasks in the area.

“It’s brilliant to have Broad Haven Community Primary School on board with our junior COASTodian scheme.

“The students will have the opportunity to take part in beach cleans, but will also be able to join in with other tasks around the coastline such as helping with footpath clearing and caring for our special places in Little Haven.”
