A CRUNDALE woman is making an appeal to members of the public to help her knit hats for the homeless this Christmas.

Amanda Evans decided she wanted to help the homeless this Christmas, and thought knitting hats to help them keep warm was one of the best things she could do.

β€œIt is so they have got something personal that is theirs and they can take it with them in their pockets,” she said.

Amanda has put contact details and free knitting patterns at the Crundale Post Office so people can follow them and give freshly knitted hats back.

She has also posted in Facebook groups appealing for help with knitted hats and other clothes, and has received more than 300 responses there.

One donor has given in a tent and sleeping bags to her, while another has donated tins and packets of food for dogs.

But more helpers are always welcome to get involved by knitting hats.

The hats and other donations will be handed out on Boxing Day in Cardiff and Newport, South Wales by Hellana Hetfield of Helping the Homeless.

Amanda moved from Maidstone in Kent 12 months ago, where last winter a homeless man died on the streets after not being allowed to sleep inside a derelict building.

She remembered his death and when she moved to Pembrokeshire she became involved with a group called Helping the Homeless on Facebook, run by Hellana Hetfield, to do what she could this year.
