HARD-WORKING fundraiser Elly Neville headed to Withybush last week to see for herself the equipment her funds have bought.

Elly’s Ward 10 Flag Appeal has raised more than £120,000 over the years and the latest new equipment at Ward 10 at Withybush Hospital includes two sofa beds, costing £2,000 and an urine analysis machine for £1,060.

The new equipment will benefit cancer patients, families and staff on Ward 10.

Elly Neville, aged seven, said: “I love the sofa bed and the colour and would love one for my bedroom.”

Elly’s Dad Lyn added: “It is great to now see the money raised making a real difference to patients on Ward 10. Anything that can improve the care of patients and make the nurses life easier can only be a good thing. We hope there will be much more equipment to come over the next few months.”

Senior Sister Helen Johns thanked Elly and her family for their continued fundraising efforts.

“We are delighted to take delivery of the new equipment and the items will be used to enhance the service we provide on the ward for patients, their families and staff. The sofa beds will replace the existing furniture in the relatives room and with minimum effort can be converted quickly and simply to a full size functioning bed, offering comfort for prolonged visits by family members,” she said.

“The urine analysis machine is a piece of equipment the ward does not have at present and by installing this it will speed up results for clinical interpretation. We are overwhelmed that the appeal has now reached over £135,000 and would like to thank everyone who has supported it.”
