The killer of serving soldier Lance Corporal Kinnon Arrigo Ragni, who was murdered on the streets of Haverfordwest last November, has been sentenced to a minimum of 18 years in prison.

Marc Campbell, 35, of Goshawk Road in Haverfordwest, had admitted the murder of Lance Corporal Kinnon Arrigo Ragni, aged 29.

Campbell had entered a plea of guilty to murder but only after it became clear that a psychiatrist had been unable to find anything wrong with him.

Mr Justice Evans said he had no doubt that Campbell had intended to kill. He was jailed for life and told he could not apply for parole for 18 years.

A second man, Edward George Davies, 31, of Heol Penlan, Stop and call in Fishguard was sentenced to 15 months after he admitted the offence of assisting an offender.

He told police he had not realised how badly injured Mr Ragni was.

After the hearing, Mr Ragni's mother Isabelle said Campbell would one day return to society and continue with his life.

"That will never happen to my son. His life, his dreams, have all been taken from him. We will miss him forever.

"It was very difficult when the soldiers came and told me what had happened. I said 'no, he's in Wales, he's in Wales.' He survived Iraq but not our society.

"I think it makes it very, very hard for soldiers from this country to risk their lives abroad only to lose it here."
