WITH Valentine’s Day rapidly approaching, there’s a weekend event with a difference, a real ‘sausage fest,’ on Tenby’s South Beach.

For a different take on a romantic stroll on the beach, the holiday town will witness a Valentine weenie walk, when owners and their delightful dachshunds take to the sands on Saturday, February 17.

The weenie walk, which will give owners a chance to exercise the adorable animals visiting the sands, is the brainchild of Charlotte Baldwin, who created the Facebook-based Sausage Dogs Walks, South Wales UK.

Last April saw a similar ‘sausage fest’ at Freshwater West, where more than 50 dachshunds, and their owners, walked the beach.

Charlotte has previously said: “I arrange monthly walks around south/west Wales. The walks usually last up to two hours, but you can always turn back if you find it’s too far. The walks are a lovely way to meet people and also for your little dachshunds to make friends and gain confidence.

“It all took off about a year ago, I only thought about 30-40 dachshunds owners would join. We now have members worldwide and it’s growing. It's been amazing.”

There’s another reason for Charlotte’s walks, raising funds to help disabled dachshunds, many of which suffer IVDD (Intervertebral disk disease), which sadly leaves many paralysed.

The Tenby weenie walk starts at 12.30, meeting at the South Beach (golf course side) ‘cafe and parking’ slope to the beach.

To take part in the weenie walk, it’s £2 per sausage family, with voluntary donations gratefully received for the charity, dedicated to dachshunds with IVDD.
