THE FAMILY of Pembroke Leisure Centre worker David Dutton have expressed their public thanks to the many well-wishers who left their condolences following his recent death.

Poignant floral tributes were recently left at the leisure centre to David Dutton, a former Pembroke School pupil, described in one message as “a true gent,” and in another he was thanked for his “patience and passion”.

Among the flowers left were playing cards, reflecting David’s love of poker.

The circumstances surrounding the death of 26-year-old Mr Dutton, one of four brothers are not yet known.

Mr Dutton, a keen half-Ironman triathlete and football supporter of his beloved Swansea, was found at his Tremeyrick Street home on January 5.

The family, at nearby Gwyther Street, have been shocked by just how well-loved David was, with so many flowers and messages of condolence received.

Mum, Zillah, said: “We, his parents and family, wish to express our heartfelt thanks for the many floral tributes, cards and many other items which we have received and have been left at Pembroke Leisure Centre.”

Dad Colin said: “We’ve had so many cards, flowers, and messages from well-wishers, it’s helped a great deal. The fact is he’s obviously well-loved; it appears he’s touched so many people.”

David’s funeral is to take place at 1pm on January 25 at Saint John’s Church, Pembroke Dock, with all welcome.

The funeral will be followed by a service at Narberth Crematorium. The family has requested no flowers on the day, family flowers only.

Following the crematorium service, a ‘get together’ will take place at Pembroke Dock Cricket Club from about 4.30pm approximately.

The Dutton family is hoping to set up a Justgiving online fundraising page in David’s memory, provisionally entitled David (Dave) Dutton’s Memory, with donations also being received through John Roberts & Son funeral directors.

Funds raised will go to various charities, as yet undecided, but will include the Children in Need charity.

David’s best friend Gary Pratt is also organising a fundraising/memorial day this Sunday afternoon, January 21, at Pembroke Dock’s Bush Tavern, from 3pm.

Gary has chosen the theme of poker, much loved by David.

Gary said: “I am organising a game of poker with some novelty prizes up for grabs. It will not be a serious game (just as he would’ve wanted) and I personally want those who knew him to come along just to have a drink and a social - you do not have to play poker.

“If you are wanting to play it will be a £7 buy in, there will be novelty prizes. All funds raised will go to a fund for costs and a charity of choice that will be decided in the near future.”

He added: “Let’s get as many people together as we can for an absolute legend and someone who gave so much to this community, even if it’s just popping in for a drink.”
