A weekend outbreak of vandalism in Pembrokeshire included three public conveniences attacked across the county.

A town centre emergency defibrillator in Tenby was also damaged, while the town's Greenhill School was broken into and damage caused.

Toilets in Haverfordwest, Manorbier and Tenby were hit in the latest of a series of attacks in Pembrokeshire public loos.

In the men’s toilets in the multi-storey car park in Haverfordwest, a urinal was smashed and dislodged from the wall; a soap dispenser broken off and a toilet seat cracked.

The Manorbier attack saw toilet seats ripped off; toilet roll holders broken and a cubicle door kicked in.

Considerable damage was caused at the loos in Butts Field car park in Tenby where vandals forced entry into the roof void and kicked all of the plasterboard ceilings down in both the ladies and gents sections.

While Haverfordwest and Manorbier are currently being repaired, the Butts Field toilets will be closed for around three to four weeks while repairs are carried out. The repair bill could run into four figures.

It is the third spate of public toilet vandalism to be recorded in the past couple of months.

In December hundreds of pounds worth of damage was caused at conveniences in Marine Road, Broad Haven, and again at the Haverfordwest multi-storey car park.

Last month, toilets at The Commons, Pembroke, were targeted with damage estimated at around £1,000 while another incident was reported - again at Butts Field.

Pembrokeshire County Council’s cabinet member for environment and Welsh language, Cris Tomos – who has previously expressed dismay at the ongoing vandalism – called for local residents, businesses and town and community councils to support the authority and public toilet contractors, Danfo, in identifying the individuals causing what he described as “mindless damage.”

Councillor Tomos went on: “The county council is having to divert more time and resources to tackling this unnecessary vandalism at a time when funds are more acutely needed for delivering social services and education services.

“I would encourage any member of the public to come forward with any information to catch these individuals so that they can be prosecuted.”

* Following reports of the Tenby toilet vandalism and the break-in at Greenhill School, police arrested an 18-year-old man from Pembroke Dock; a 19-year-old man from Tenby and a 19-year-old man from Newport on suspicion of burglary.

A police spokesman said today (Monday): "All have been released under investigation.

"Further enquiries are being made to assess the level of damage and if any items were taken."

Tenby and Saundersfoot Community First Responders have made an appeal for information following the damage to the defibrillator outside Tesco in Tudor Square on Saturday night.

Posting on Facebook, the group commented: "Sad to hear yet again some inconsiderate individual has yet again damaged the defibrillator at Tesco Tenby.

"Police in Tenby are aware and have an individual on CCTV seen punching the Perspex then using the cash point, yet more community funds need to be spent to replace this.

"If anyone witnessed this criminal damage, please contact 101."
