A ST David’s Day parade will grace the streets of Haverfordwest on Thursday, March 1 this year.

Organising the inaugural parade is the Pembrokshire Language Forum, with many local schools and community groups already having signed up to flying the flag and dressing up for the parade.

One of those organising, Rhidian Evans of Menter Iaith Sir Benfro said: “There is a tremendous response with already over 1,000 people confirming that they will attend this first Haverfordwest St David’s day parade.”

Rhidian added: “There is also a special shop window competition with a special dragon trophy for the winning display.”

Those interested in being part of the parade should bring their banners, flags or costumes to the Old Library, Dew Street carpark by 9.30am at the latest.

The official parade will start at 10am down the High Street, along Bridge Street and then through the Riverside shopping centre before crossing the footbridge, then over to Quay Street and crossing the footbridge by the old Post Office, to then finish at the skate park field for live entertainment.

Businesses are asked to note road closures on High Street, Bridge Street, and Quay Street which may affect deliveries during the morning.

The organisers continue to fundraise for the event and are compiling a crowdfunding campaign of “Cant dros Dewi Sant” initiative to ask those supporters for £20 to then have their names recognised as one of the 100 sponsors of the event.

Anyone wishing to be involved with the shop window competition should contact Heledd Llwyd on 07809 731571.

Anyone wishing to be one of the 100 sponsors should contact Rhidian Evans on 01239 831129 or leave £20 with their name and address in an envelope on the reception of County Hall Haverfordwest marked St David’s Day Parade.
