HAVERFORDWEST VC School has been removed from special measures after a recent visit by Estyn.

The school was visited by Estyn in December and was left with good news for all of the pupils, staff, and parents when inspectors decided it should be removed from special measures, after being placed in this category in February 2016.

The inspection team (Mr Kevin Davies HMI and Mr Michael Hayes HMI) recognised that standards had improved significantly since the original inspection report.

The Estyn team said behaviour has improved very significantly in the last two years and pupils are now fully engaged in the running of the school through the use of roles and responsibilities such as the School Council, Sports Ambassadors, Librarians, and Attendance Ambassadors.

The use of Welsh around the school site was identified as a strength and the Criw Cymraeg (the ambassadors for Welsh around the school) really impressed the team with their language and leadership skills.

Both pupils and staff were pleased by the news.

“I hope that more people will want to come to our school so they can see for themselves how great it is here,” said Seth Hughes, aged 10.

Mrs Cora O’Brien, acting head teacher at the school, acknowledged the tremendous work of the pupils, the staff and the governing body, as well the support from parents and the wider community.

The school is having an Open Day on Friday 16th March from 9am until 12:30pm, all are welcome.
