Cannabis with an estimated street value of £1,605 was intended to be shared out between family members who wished to avoid idiots, a court has heard.

Mark Graham Millard, of Glan Preseli, Llandewi Velfrey, pleaded guilty to Class B drug possession with intent to supply when he appeared before Haverfordwest magistrates on Tuesday.

The court heard that 153g of herbal cannabis and 14g of cannabis resin was seized when a search warrant was executed at Millard’s address on December 13.

Millard, 51, told police he had received money from his son and partner before buying the cannabis to share with them, and had paid £600 for it.

Ellie Morgan, prosecuting, said: “He said he smokes cannabis almost every evening, his mrs and son chip in and he shares it out. He said he does not sell it as it is hard enough to get.”

The court heard Millard had previous convictions for drug offences, had used cannabis for a number of years and had no intention of stopping.

Mike Kelleher, defending, told the court that Millard, who was in the process of setting up a building maintenance business, was only supplying family members, and was not making a profit from the enterprise.

“He said he did not like dealing with the idiots in town and prefers to get sufficient for the family for a month.

“This was rather more than he usually gets, at the time he was very pleased to get so much for that money. They were all surprised at the amount, but of course that has now been confiscated.”

Magistrates imposed a 12-month community order with 60 hours of unpaid work. Millard was ordered to pay £170 in costs and a surcharge.

A destruction order was made for the seized drugs.
