THE STAGE is set at for an exciting development at Fishguard's Theatr Gwaun, as the community venue was awarded a £10,000 grant from the People's Postcode Lottery.

The grant will fund an audience development manager at the community venue. This is a one-year post which aims to develop local partnerships; actively engage and collaborate with local community groups and continue to grow an arts venue that meets the needs of the local community.

"Having established Theatr Gwaun as a venue at the heart of our local community, we need to encourage those people, who as yet, have not crossed the threshold to experience the delights of watching films or live drama in a theatrical setting," said theatre trustee Jill Edge.

"Actively engaging with community groups, whether that be elderly people, people with autism, school children or young adults, the grant will enable us to design shows and performances to suit their wants and needs and improve accessibility."

The grant has already enabled an exciting collaboration between Theatr Gwaun and POINT Across Communities to run three dementia friendly cinema/theatre experiences over the coming year, involving both young and older people. The first event will be held on Tuesday 22nd May as part of Dementia Action week.

"We are excited to be working with Theatr Gwaun on the Friendly Theatre/Theatr Gyfeillgar project with the additional help of a Caring Communities Innovation Grant and the unwavering support of local Alzheimer's Society staff," said Lynda Duffill, POINT's project manager.

"This project plays a big part in POINT's ambition to initiate intergenerational activity in the community of Fishguard and Goodwick.

"We invite young people to get involved by volunteering at the theatre events and we offer support and training, to get involved please contact: 01348 871887 or message in on Facebook @POINTacrosscommunity."
