A drunken ‘silly escapade’ proved costly for a Haverfordwest man who is now banned from every pub in town.

Kenneth Daniel Richard-Mathias, of Foley Way, pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly in a public place, when he appeared before Haverfordwest magistrates on Tuesday, April 17.

A charge of causing criminal damage to a beer pump on the same date was withdrawn by the court.

Sian Vaughan, prosecuting, told the court that Richard-Mathias, 34, was refused another drink at the Pembroke Yeoman, Haverfordwest, on March 15 because he was thought to be too intoxicated.

He questioned the point of visiting a pub which would not serve him, then asked staff to step outside and squared up to them.

Miss Vaughan said: “Police had to put him in a hold to keep him steady and stop him from lashing out due to his annoyance at being held by the officers.”

Mark Layton, defending, said that Richard-Mathias was no longer welcome at the Yeoman, and had no desire to go there.

“He obviously had a few drinks, and had a disagreement with a member of staff. He was asked to leave and there was something of a commotion outside.”

He added that Richard-Mathias was now on the Behave or Be Banned scheme, which meant he was unable to enter any pub in Haverfordwest.

Magistrates fined Richard-Mathias £40 and ordered him to pay £85 court costs and a £30 surcharge.

The chairman of the bench said: “It sounds as if you have been on a bit of a silly escapade, which you are going to pay dearly for.”
